“Beckham is a coward…”

May 12th, 2006 | By: Daniel | 5 Comments »

Now that Paraguay don’t have any more its world famous outspoken, big mouth Jose Luis Chilavert, we found somebody that is willing to take his place as the one who will heat up the things before the World Cup. Delio Toledo, who plays for the Zaragoza team (Spain) and is very known for his temper, mentioned to the press that although that David Beckham makes great shoots, he is very coward in the field.

Toledo said that “when you play rough and enter hard in a divided ball he always jumps”. Saying that he remembered that they had some quarrels during the games of the Spanish League. Later he mentioned that he knows how to mark him and that he want to face Beckham again, but this time playing for the national team.

In these days that everyone is very nervous and quiet hoping that his name will be in the final player’s list, some spice to heat up the things before the World Cup always is welcome.

[...] I reckon after all this time in Madrid that Becks has enough Spanish to make this into proper bulliten board material: Delio Toledo, star of Zaragoza and the Paraguayan squad, says that Our Captain fears hard tackles and that he knows how to mark him. [...]

Players are not cobardes or cowards. They are smart and do not want to be injured.

Of course that every player try to don’t be injure in a match. There are big differences in playing “hard” and playing with “bad intentions”. Skillful player like Maradona, Zizou, Rodaldinho, even Beckham are always the target of every kick or foul of the opponents.

More that “coward” in South America we use a term “Pecho Frio” (cold chest) to the players that don’t feel the “t-shirt of the team” or that only wait that the ball reach their feets and never marks or try to get the ball.
