Coach Ruiz awarded as the Best Coach in America.

Anibal Ruiz was awarded last Thursday the Best Coach of America by the Uruguayan newspaper “El Pais” in their traditional event that gather the opinion of editors and journalist from all America. The other nominees were Paulo Autuori (Brazil), Jose Pekerman (Argentina) and Jorge Fosatti (Uruguay).

Maño, very touched expressed his gratitude mentioning that this kind of recognition goes only a few times to coaches from little countries as Paraguay and Uruguay. He also mentioned the pride of directing in the next World Cup the brave Paraguayan team.

It’s very weird how a coach that doesn’t have the national approval from either the press or the fans is awarded as Best Coach, primarily because he was all the time very conservative with a defensive tactic through all the qualification. He never took the risk of organizing an offensive team (maybe in the match against Argentina in Asuncion). For me, even though he seems as a great guy, a grandpa look-a-like, he is more of the same; he did not bring anything new to the team. That is why I conclude that the international press believed that it’s a miracle that Paraguay qualified or they where pretty drunk when they sent the votes.

But still, congratulations coach Ruiz!!!
