Farewell to “El Pepe”
Even though that he was one of the most criticized players since he got in the team, Jose Cardozo by its great efforts and goals won the heart of every Paraguayan fan. Yesterday the news of its replacement in the national team shocked every fan. Complications from an injury received in the friendly match against Denmark ended its dream of say goodbye to the National Team in this World Cup.
With 25 goals, he is the player that scored more goals in the history of the national team. This World Cup would constitute its final goodbye to its 15 years of service to the National Team, playing 82 games. He played for the U-23 team in the Barcelona ’92 Olympics, France ’98, Korea-Japan ’02 and the Athens Olympics ’04.
There is no doubt that the World Cup would be a great scenario to its retirement, but many fans and some part of the press said that the price of this proper farewell would be very high because he was not in its higher level of game at the time of the convocation.
Either way, I believe that everyone should thanks Cardozo for all his effort, even when he wasn’t a gifted player, in the rival’s area he was very dangerous and he disputed all the balls in all the games he played as a real gladiator. Pepe, goodbye my friend, and thanks a lot for everything.
