Julio Dos Santos and Dante Lopez out.

March 23rd, 2006 | By: Daniel | 6 Comments »

Julio Dos Santos (Bayern Munich) and Dante Lopez (Genova) will not be available to play in the next preparation match against Mexico. The european football teams did not gave them permission to play the next March 29, 2005 in Chicago, Illinois. The absence of Dos Santos, who probably will play in the starting team in the World Cup, will give the opportunity to some local players to play for a chance to be in the Paraguayan team.

The only doubt that Anibal Ruiz (coach) is facing in the World Cup preparation is the forward line of the team, primarily in the number of forwars that will take to Germany and the injury of Roque Santa Cruz. Today Ruiz announced that Paraguay will use a 4-4-2 tactic.

Hi. I heard that Paraguay was going to take 20 players to the friendly with Mexico, instead of the 18 agreed. ¿Do you know anything about this? ¿Can they do that? ¿Can Mexico take 20 too?. Hope it wasn’t just a rumor. Or probably they took 18 plus 2, waiting for the decision on Dos Santos and Lopez.

Thx.

Is true than Paraguay will take 20 players to Chicago (actually I think there is only going to be 19 because Walter Fretes is having trouble to get the US visa). About how many players could each team take, becuase it is a friendly match, both teams probably agreed in that, the same as how many player changes will be, probably more than 2 considering that it is a preparation match and both coaches will like to test all their players.

These are the players who will play against Mexico:

Goalkeepers: Derlis Gomez (Sportivo Luqueno), Diego Berreto (Cerro Porteno)

Defenders: Denis Caniza (Cruz Azul), Pedro Benitez (Cerro Porteno), Julio Irrazabal (Nacional), Ignacio Paniagua (Nacional, Uruguay), Hector Sosa (12 de Octubre), Gilberto Velazquez (Guarani)

Midfielders: Roberto Acuna (Deportivo Coruna, Spain), Jose Montiel (Olimpia), Carlos Ruiz Peralta (Tacuary), Luis Nunez (Sportivo Luqueno), Troadio Duarte (Nacional), Walter Fretes (Cerro Porteno)

Forwards: Salvador Cabanas (Chiapas, Mexico), Nelson Cuevas (Pachuca, Mexico), Julio Martinez (2 de Mayo), Raul Roman (Tacuary)

Almost half of these players were not regulars in the Paraguayan team during the worldcup qualification.

Hey Daniel!!! Welcome to the blog! I’m the Brazilian blogger and I also hope to read your news and ideas about this World Cup.

About the friendly issue, they always have soft rules for them. Substitutions are almost free (about 6 for each team).

I recently wrote a piece about my top 5 great memories in World Cup history that people are enjoying more than I expected. I would love to read about your top memories in Paraguay’s World Cup history.
