I'm sure you did see the match, Akbar. And you also saw the many inexplicable foul throw-in's, Peter Crouch's continual jumping up "fouling", Steven Gerrard's tackling the ball yellow-card "foul", the incident where lil Joe Cole leapt up for the ball bullying two massive defenders sandwiched around him to the ground. That Joe Cole is such a bully. And of course, Frank Lampard falling to the floor and "fouling" the three defenders around him by landing on the ball, and struggling to get to his feet. And you know it's a bad sign when the crowd cheers ironically after receiving their first decision after about 80 minutes of football. Of course there were 98 minutes of football in England vs Paraguay's opener for some reason.

But no one is blaming the referee for it all going wrong, because it didn't all go wrong. England won quite easily - Paraguay were a class below - and all going well against Trinidad, we'll be in the second round by the end of tomorrow,
all of which doesn't change the fact that the referee was very very poor.

Mr. Imtiaz Hashem, assure yourself, we all saw the match, otherwise we wouldn't be commenting on it.

Mr. Rodriguez is the perfect example of a non-emotional straightforward referee who will call a foul a foul.

The modern game has become too abstract. Referees will ignore shirt-tugging in the box, simply because they don't want to "affect the match" or make a "controversial decision" by giving a penalty. As a result, everyone has become used to things like shurt-tugging and diving which the referees totally seem to ignore.

Your facts and figures are, of course, wrong. The referee only whistled around 3 throw-ins, and you make the point yourself: these are professional footballers. If the referee is whistling their throws it means they've been getting away with it for so long that it's become a habit to do them wrong.

Mr. Rodriguez and the likes should be congratulated for not reacting to pressure and for reinforcing the true rules of the game.

The more referees like him, the more the rules will be obeyed.

This type of referees are in my opinion the most stupids, because it seems like them want to become the protagonist of the match, when the players are the protagonist and they only need to view the game without any influence.

I saw a few elbows that he didn't call foul, and in the throw-in he was very stupid.

What about the ring of Beckham, isn't that a FIFA prohibition?

Dear Akber / Nolan,

If you saw the match for yourselves, you might have noticed the referee was soooooooo unfair. He fowled 4 to 6 throw-ins by professional footballers and I don't think any footballer can make that many mistakes in a simple throw-in...

Finally, I appreciate England played bogus in the second half but well...

P.S: Did you notice the referee actually stepped on the Cole after he was down?

Akbar and Nolan, we're not blaming the referee for loosing, because we didn't. But he disrupted the whole flow of the match. Crouch answered back the referee for no good reason, and I'd call him an idiot for that. But seven fouls against Crouch? You must be kidding me...

I agree 100% with Akbar. Refs aren't always perfect, but maybe it's time to take responsability for England's many shortcommings instead of blaming the referee.

The Brits seem to suffer from a particular disease that they haven't quite recovered from yet:

-Always blame the referee.

It is about time you looked at your own players rather than constantly blaming the officials.

It doesn't help that it is commonplace in your football league to badmouth referees, wether you're a coach or a sorry excuse of a "fan".
