Paraguay ties with Norway 2-2
Once away Maño Ruiz (coach) presented a very defensive strategy in the friendly match played today against Norway in Oslo. The strategy of just waiting and holding the ball during the game left the fans with a bitter taste of what we can expect from our team in the next World Cup.
Without key players Paraguay played its first friendly match in Europe facing its preparation for the World Cup. Although that there are going to be changes in the final line-up for the match against England, one thing is clear, with this coach it is very hard to play more offensively, and try to lead the game.
The high points: Nelson Haedo Valdez showed that he can secure the ball and score when he has the opportunities, Nelson Cuevas finally understood that he needs to play more for the team, leaving out individual plays and Edgar Barreto tried to push forward the team.
The low points: Salvador Cabañas and Julio Dos Santos didn’t do much for the team, Justo Villar made an error that let Norway tied the match but he had good interventions and Jose Cardozo was too slow and out of rhythm.
Let’s hope that in the next preparation games the team tries other strategies, playing a little more forward with the actual players that will be use in Germany.

Thanks for the report on the game. I saw replays of the goals and Valdez’ was a nice one but what a mistake by Villar, flapping at a cross on Norway’s game tying 2nd!
Good comment on Cuevas’ individualism. Especially now with santa Cruz’ health in doubt, Cuevas will need to play collectively and step up his play if Paraguay is to have success.
I’m wondering how much Caceres absence in the back effected paraguay’s ability to deal with Norway’s aerial game?
