Roque Santa Cruz backs to action…

April 8th, 2006 | By: Daniel | 7 Comments »

Roque Santa Cruz recently returned to practice with his team, Bayern Munich, after 5 months of rest because its knee ligament injury. Although he has a secure place in the Paraguayan’s World Cup player list, is expected his full recover before the May 15 deadline.

No body doubts that Roque is a great player and has a lot of potential, but like with Chilavert in the last World Cup, I don’t know if it will be in the best interest of the national team to take an injure or half recover player to the Germany, because in the case of an early injury or not full recover the team will have one forward less.

I hope that Roque will have enough time to get in good shape and I think I am speaking for every Paraguayan fan that we will love to see him with Nelson Haedo Valdez playing in the attack zone of the team.

The historic Jose “Pepe” Cardozo was the main forward in the Paraguayan team, but because his age and some injuries in the last matches of the qualification Roque and Nelson Haedo were the forwards.

Nelson Haedo has a secure place in the starting team, so if Roque Santa Cruz is unavailable to play the World Cup, his substitutes are Cardozo, Cabanas, Cuevas or Cesar Ramirez.

I believe Cardozo probably will play in his place if he gets to the World Cup in good shape, other wise probably Salvador Cabanas will be Haedo’s companion…

After the match Roque affirmed that he is confident with his recovery and that he only needs more games to recover his football, because in speed and physical shape he is 100 %.

Next week, the Paraguay medic, Dr. Pangrazio, will see him to know how the recovery is evolving.
