The B-team loses against Mexico
In a very boring match, with not much technique the Paraguay B-team lost 2-1 against Mexico in a friendly game in Chicago. The match served to test some players that could made to the World Cup list like Montiel, Cabañas, Acuña, and even Cuevas. What this match left us? Ok, I think that we saw the exact same tactic of 4-4-2 that Maño Ruiz (coach) will use in the Germany, but with different players. Probably the Paraguayan team will be a little defensive, primarily against England.
Highlights. Acuña is recovering his game and it is in a good physical shape, and these games help him to get on the field because he wasn’t playing in his team. The big question, Montiel. I think he is a great player and is playing a lot in his team (Olimpia). If the coach dares to put a more offensive team (knowing the coach, I think this is not very probable), he will make a good duet with Dos Santos in the midfield. Salvador Cabañas is the one who is playing to get in the list (and maybe in the starting team) if Roque Santa Cruz doesn’t recover from his injury in time. He is a good forward, but still has to compete with Jose Cardozo and Cesar Ramirez to be the companion of Nelson Valdez Haedo. Caniza, he is playing well and has a good speed.
Low points. Nelson Cuevas, I don’t believe this guy, sometimes I think he forget that he can pass the ball too. Although that he scored important goals in some games, I believe that he need to take a speed course of how to play football and start thinking before run. If he made into the list, probably he will take the place of other more useful player. When the Paraguayan team will start a match taking a little more risk and be less defensive? Why we cannot play like we played against Argentina in Asuncion? If Paraguay wants to make a good World Cup this has to change. Maybe I am wrong, even Brazil left its “jogo bonito” and start playing more effectively, but I still think that we can put a more offensive team and still win.
Finally, like I said before, we saw the same tactic that will be use in the World Cup, but the difference probably will be the number of creative midfields that Ruiz will put in the field. Considering that even though Carlos Humberto Paredes and Roberto Acuña have creative skills in the midfield, they will be in charge of the mark and Montiel and Dos Santos could make the connection and the passes to the forwards.
