Where is our winning attitude?

June 5th, 2006 | By: Daniel | No Comments »

In the past days there were a couple of interviews given by some players that really bother me off. First, Roque Santa Cruz, our own star referred that the team will try to make the “miracle” of winning the match against England. Then, Nelson Cuevas said to Fox Sport that “we will do what we can…”. What a shame.

I know that by its own nature the Paraguayan people historically had been a people of only a few words, humble and almost stoic in its way of life, but there is a big difference in being “humble” and actually feels “inferior”. The first is compressible, but the later is the kind of attitude that doesn’t let you make history, is an almost looser mentality.

In these moments I really miss Chilavert. He could be a very annoying, big mouth guy, but he never felt inferior of no one, that is probably how he achieved all his goals. If Chilavert said that Paraguay would won any team, everyone one believed him, you actually felt that this was possible. Reading the press one could say that this attitude is only held by Carlos Gamarra and Delio Toledo, whom always say that Paraguay will beat England.

We all know that England is one of the candidates to the Championship, but this doesn’t mean that you will inevitably loss against them. And primarily to actually win a match you need to believe that you could win. Come on guy, lets have a more positive spirit !!!
