Paraguayans in the English Premier League

July 15th, 2009 | By: Victor | No Comments »

Roque Santa Cruz has finally been reunited with his former boss, Mark Hughes at Manchester City. Hughes had made multiple offers for Santa Cruz back in January, but these attempts failed due to the refusal of Blackburn managers. At the time, Roque was considered vital to keep Blackburn in the premiership. Ironically, [...]

Paraguay stumbles in Uruguay and redeems itself in Ecuador

April 4th, 2009 | By: Victor | No Comments »

This past week, we had two away games before Uruguay and Ecuador.
We only brought back one point, but since no one won all six points that were in play, we are still comfortably leading by four points.
After our defeat in Uruguay and considering how well Ecuador played against Brazil, our prospects of bringing [...]

Although that we need to care only in our next games, this result is very interesting to our chances to pass to the next round. Now if hypotetically Paraguay ties with T&T in the points obtained, we propably will have in the goal difference one goal less.

The only way is to win this game.

That is what Coach Ruiz said in his last meeting with the press. He also affirmed that Paraguay had troubles getting into the last game in the first 15 minutes, time when England scored its only goal (it really was a own goal). About that unlucky play he mentioned that this goal really ruined the [...]

Contrary to what he did in the last game, Coach Ruiz had announced the starting line-up of the Paraguayan team for the match against Sweden. Mainly the team is the same that played the first game with the forced substitution of Justo Villar (goalkeeper) and Delio Toledo (defense). Instead of them, Aldo Bobadilla and Jorge [...]

Finally we will see the traditional colors of the Paraguayan team tomorrow when our team faces Sweden in Berlin. We need to remark than in the last match against England, Paraguay used an alternative color.
Let’s hope that this particular situation gives to the players a greater motivation than in the last game. As we all [...]

After reading Jon’s blog (the Sweden team bloger) concerns about the Swedish chances to advance in this World Cup, two things came to my mind: first, it seems like most people will be pleased with a Swedish victory next Thursday (I don’t blame them, Paraguay played an awful match) and second, very early in this [...]

Paraguay prepares a more offensive team.

June 13th, 2006 | By: Daniel | No Comments »

Knowing that a defeat in the next match against Sweden means the end of the World Cup for the Paraguayan team, Coach Ruiz is training a more offensive team that the one that was presented the last game against England.
Roque Santa Cruz mentioned that now he really feels 100 % recover and yesterday it looked [...]
