Paraguay coach Anibal Ruiz has called up 20 players for a friendly against Wales in Cardiff on March 1 but captain Carlos Gamarra isn’t one of them. Gamarra is out with an inury. Does anyone actually care about Paraguay?

Pair of Friendlies for Paraguay
Norway and Denmark will be two opponents for Paraguay as it prepares for the World Cup.
Paraguay will take on Norway, on May 24, and Denmark on May 27. Both games will be played Austria where Paraguay will hold its training camp leading up to the World Cup.

Paraguay’s Gonzalez has Arm Amputated
More sad news today regarding Paraguay’s Julio Gonzalez. The striker has had his arm amputated, a medical procedure necessitated following a car accident four weeks ago in Italy.
Before the accident Gonzalez had been playing his second season for Serie B side Vincenza in hopes of earning a spot on Paraguay’s World Cup team.

There is something not quite right about Paraguay heading into this World Cup. Sure it has qualified out of South America for the third straight time and has firmly established itself as one of the continent’s best, but something is missing.
