Paraguay

Paraguayans Abroad

There are Paraguayans many football leagues of the world. Here is how some of our players did.

Argentina

Racing Club: Goalkeeper Roberto Junior Fernandez and defender Marcos Caceres played the whole game in Racing Clubs 2-0 win over Independiente.
San Lorenzo Almagro: Midfielders Nestor Ortigoza and Aureliano Torres, and forward Pablo Velázquez played all 90 minutes in San Lorenzo’s 1-1 draw with Lanus.
Lanus: Midfielder Eduardo Ledesma started the game and was replaced after 61 minute by Mauro Camoranesi.
River Plate: Defender Adalberto Roman played the whole game in his team’s 0-0 draw with Gimnasia La Plata.
Olimpo de Bahia Blanca: Forward Nestor Bareiro started and scored in a 2-2 draw with Estudiantes de la Plata.
Newell’s Old Boy: Nestor Camacho came on for the second half, but Marcelo Estigarribia wasn’t even on the bench. I suspect Estigarribia is injured. Newell’s lost to Quilmes 3-1.
Argentinos Juniors: Santiago Salcedo played all 90 minutes in his team defeat to Godoy Cruz.
Colon de Santa Fe: Defender Salustiano Candia played the last five minutes against Velez. The teams drew at one goal each.
Banfield: Forward Jorge Achucarro started and was replaced after 76 minutes in his team’s victory over Arsenal de Sarandi.
Arsenal de Sarandi: Defender Pablo Aguilar played the whole game in their defeat to Banfield.

Brazil
Cruzeiro: Jose Ortigoza (forward) was on the bench for his teams midweek victory in their visit to Estudiantes de la Plata in Argentina (2-0), but he didn’t appear on the bench in the Brazilian championship.
Atletico Paranaense: I read somewhere forward Ivan Gonzalez Ferreira scored this weekend but I could not confirm this.

Mexico
Pachuca forward Edgar Benitez played the whole game in his teams loss to Atlas. Osvaldo Martinez was on the bench, but did not play in Monterey’s draw with Morelia. Dante Lopez and Dario Veron played the whole game in UNAM’s win over Queretaro. Dante Lopez scored in this 3-0 victory.

Spain
Claudio Morel Rodriguez played the whole game in Deportivo La Coruña’s 2-0 win over Racing Santander. Nelson Haedo Valdez started and left the field with an injury in Hercule’s 1-2 loss to Levante. Paulo Da Silva played the whole game in Zaragoza’s 0-1 loss to Villarreal. Goalkeeper Justo Villar didn’t see any action in Valladolid’s win in the Spanish second division.
Youngster Hernan Perez started in Villareal’ B team in the Spanish second division. Interestingly, he came on for Giussepe Rossi in this teams win over Twente last week in the Europa League. Villareal will be playing the Europa League’s semi-final against Portuguese FC Porto.

England
Roque Santa Cruz started in Blackburn’s 2-0 defeat to Everton and it looks like he’ll be out for a couple of weeks because of a hamstring injury. He’s started six or seven games now, but hasn’t broken his dry spell yet.
Cristian Riveros was on the bench but did not play in Sunderland’s 0-2 defeat Birmingham. I’m surprised how this usually strong team is sinking into the relegation zone.
Defender Antolin Alcaraz played the whole game in Wigan Athletic’s win over Blackpool. They got themselves a breath of fresh air since they are momentarily out of the relegation zone.
Transfer news confirmed: 17-year old Rodrigo Baez is joining Blackburn Rovers. All the best to this young talent!

Germany
Lucas Barrios is injured, but Borussia Dortmund is well on their to a title after their 3-0 win this weekend.

Portugal
Oscar “Tacuara” Cardozo’s Benfica secured a Champions League birth next season after defeating Beira Mar 2-1. Tacuara also scored in their midweek game against PSV Eindhoven (2-2). They classified to the semifinals and now they face fellow Portuguese team, Braga.
Javier Cohene Mereles played for Pacos Ferreira.

Italy
Serie A: Victor Hugo Marecos was on the bench for Brescia and youngster Celso Jara Martinez was not in the 18 for Palermo.
Serie B: Edgar Barreto came on in the second half for Atalanta’s defeat to Empoli, Tomas Guzman scored in Piacenza’s draw and Jose Montiel started in Regina’s 1-1 draw with Torino.

Others:
Celzo Ortiz of AZ Alkmar didn’t play in Holland and Federico Santander was on the bench but did not play for Toulouse in France. Jonathan Santana started in Kayserispor 3-1 defeat in Turkey.

Salud!
